Tulum

Virtually unspoiled nature and crystal clear sea, a dream come true.

tulum

On March 13th 2008 Tulum became the ninth municipality of Quintana Roo: its territory extends on over 2,000 square kilometers and it comprises of 29 localities, totaling 31,000 inhabitants.

At the same time, the local government launched an innovative Development Plan: its scope is to guide and standardize urban development and environmental planning for the next twenty years.

The renewed political and administrative context made it possible for the Mexican government to sponsor and finance fundamental infrastructural works.

The new international airport on the Tulum to Coba’ road is one of the major infrastructural works and its completion is scheduled for 2012. The airport will be one of the most important factors for the increase in tourism activity in the region.

The decision to build a new airport in this area was inevitable, as Cancun airport is nearing full capacity with ever increasing passenger numbers.

Tourists mainly from the United States, from Canada, Argentina and Europe are flocking to the beaches of Riviera Maya; the average increase in total numbers is around 15%.

The upgrade of the Carretera Federal 307 (highway) that links Cancun and Tulum was completed at the beginning of 2009, making it a 4-lane highway and the construction of a high speed train line between the two cities is also under development. Tulum’s local government is putting in place significant urban infrastructures like water systems, electricity, local roads and bridges.

A number of high level Mexican companies have put together significant private funding and are planning the construction of an 18 hole golf course in the Kukulcan area.

The beach is a long strip of white, silky sand dotted with lush tropical palm trees and is constantly monitored and maintained to the highest standards by the Mexican Environmental Department (SEMANARP).
The government entity guarantees environmental protection and enforces the strict rules that prohibit unregulated development and construction.

Choosing to invest in Tulum at this time will secure a great investment opportunity in a part of Mexico that will keep its traditional values and its character while becoming a main player on the international tourism scene.
