Playa del Carmen
Your place in the sun all year round.

Until not so long ago, Playa del Carmen was a small, quiet fishing village. Now it is one of the fastest growing cities in Mexico: a paradigm of rapidly booming tourism industry and economic expansion.
The total population of Playa del Carmen went from 50,000 inhabitants in 2003 to over 100,000 in 2005.
It did not take long for this dynamic and expanding city to adapt to the changing necessities and requirements of the booming tourist industry: new infrastructure and services are now in place.
The local authorities have successfully managed to regulate the construction sector in a high growth phase. Strict environmental rules are in place for the preservation of the natural beauties of this area. Just an example, all buildings must be a maximum height of 12 meters.
There is plenty of choice between the large, established, luxury hotel chains and the small hospitality structures that are closer to the local culture and are traditionally budget friendly
Playa del Carmen is located in an ideal position between Cancun and Tulum, in the very heart of Riviera Maya. All the archeological sites are easily accessible from Playa del Carmen thanks to the abundance of connections.
This ‘in-between’ geographical position is also reflected in the city’s character: it is, in fact, less exclusive and urbanized than Cancun - with its glittery entertainment structures – but more sophisticated and tourism industry focussed than Tulum – still a modest, traditional little place. Playa del Carmen is a small city where tourism, entertainment and local tradition blend harmoniously together.
